Dear Vinod,

In reply to your query:

to the author; reg q no BOF 156- previously the answer was opyion D,please check in to new ed of braunwald. they recommend continuation of warf.what do you recommend.

The question was based on standard teaching which suggests that in view of teratogenecity warfarin is best avoided in early pregnancy.

I checked up from a consultant in vascular medicine who confirmed that this is their practice as well.

I do not use Braunwauld but I will endeavour to get hold of a copy and check this up .  I have also asked a colleague who has a special interest in medical problems in pregnancy to lok into this issue further.

I would welcome further discussion on the subject and invite other users to contribute their views.

Regards

basj

The royal college of obstetricians have published a guideline,

http://www.rcog.org.uk/guidelines.asp?PageID=106&GuidelineID=20

although it dosn't tackle this question directly it implies that warfarin should be avoided in the first trimester, and warfarin re initiated at term.

The reference is very useful

The bottom line in section 7 appears to be no warfarin in pregnancy
