This question deals with primary hyperaldosteronism. In primary hyperaldosteronism caused by adrenal hyperplasia the adrenal hyperplasia is a response to stimulation by angiotensin 2 not ACTH.


Think of the axis as renin-angiotnesin - aldosterone and this will make it easier to remember and follow


ACTH will stimulate production of cortisol. In glucocorticoid remediable aldosteronism there is a fusion of the 11 beta hydroxylase gene and the aldosterone synthetase gene and it is only in this situation that aldosterone production is under the control of ACTH
